As a member of the team at The Morpheus Clinic for Hypnosis, I bring the multiple domains of my interests and skills to inform and deepen my practice as a hypnotist. I was a professional dancer at the age of 17, and was awarded a scholarship to attend the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, graduating in 1996. I am a hypnotist certified by the National Guild of Hypnotists trained by Luke Chao. I am a committed advocate of his approach, which shares a common foundation to my methods as an actor and acting technique teacher.
My approach to hypnotherapy is to place myself in my clients shoes, to understand the patterns of thoughts and beliefs without judgement, but instead with a shared humanity. My work is informed by my personal and professional experiences, particularly by my experience working on developing practical acting techniques I also teach, that integrate mind and body. My influences are drawn from inveterate curiosity, a lifetime of stories, and being other people. This passion for connection and shared wisdom drew me to becoming a storyteller—whether as a professional actor or a scout leader! My curiosity also drew me to cross into other disciplines that gave me a perspective outside of the arts, such as business development, construction, and nonfiction writing. Although I practice directive hypnotism, which works through the practitioner’s verbal suggestions, I also use my storytelling and my communication skills as a father, to help children and teens.
I am equally fascinated by both art and science and my worldview is underpinned by a belief in observable truth, the extraordinary gift of life, the transcendent nature of art, and the human pursuit of a virtuous life. I am Jungian, rather than Freudian, and have a long abiding interest in Sufism and biblical stories without being religious.
If you are interested in my work as a voice, movement and acting coach, please take a look here, and if you are curious about what you might have seen or heard me in, IMDB is reasonably up-to-date.
Outside these endeavours, I like solo camping, dancing to music, reading and writing poetry, and hanging out with the blended family.
